About

I am an Associate Professor of Computer Science at the University of Bergamo, where I also serve as Rector's Delegate for Artificial Intelligence. I earned my BSc, MSc, and PhD in Information Technology from Politecnico di Milano (PhD 2011, advisor: Prof. E. Amaldi), then held postdoctoral and faculty positions at Politecnico di Milano, RWTH Aachen University, and the University of Southampton — where I was Lecturer and then Associate Professor of Operational Research (2016–2022) — before returning to Italy in 2022. I was a Fellow of the Alan Turing Institute (2021–2023).

My research focuses on artificial intelligence, machine learning, and mathematical optimization for decision support. On the methods side, I work on combinatorial and bilevel optimization (mixed-integer programming, cutting-plane and column-generation methods) and, more recently, on graph and hypergraph neural networks. Application domains include energy systems, algorithmic game theory, and deep learning. I am a Principal Investigator of the HEXAGON project (PRIN-PNRR, EU Next Generation EU) and contribute to the AI4SF PhD program at UniBg. I have authored more than 60 scientific publications.

I serve as Associate Editor of the Asia-Pacific Journal of Operational Research and hold the Italian National Scientific Qualification (ASN) as Full Professor in Operations Research. I welcome collaboration in AI, machine learning, optimization, and the responsible adoption of intelligent technologies.
